Description

Paddle Canada Moving Water Canoe Skills Introduction Tandem

Aim

This course introduces the canoeist to many of the fundamental skills, knowledge and manoeuvres of canoeing in whitewater. The nature of Class 1-2 rapids provides a friendly and safe environment to teach and learn the fundamentals of canoeing through moving water before venturing into whitewater rapids. This is an excellent course for people to take who are interested in expanding their canoe tripping skills or are planning on moving from lake canoe trips to river trips.

The successful candidate is considered a beginner river canoeist, capable of performing basic shore and water-based river rescues, including self-rescue. The candidate has been introduced to basic river manoeuvres such as eddy turns and ferries while paddling tandem, in Class 1-2 rapids, ripple and small wave rapids.

Prerequisites

Lake Intro or Intermediate Tandem or permission of instructor based on proof of prior learning of equivalent skill and knowledge.
