Description
Speciality waterproofer designed to protect the insulating properties of down-filled gear from wet and damp conditions. Easy to use in the washing machine or by hand, non flammable and PFAS free.

    Why down items lose their insulating properties when they get wet... Down filled items are used to provide lightweight insulation to keep you warm. The structure of down allows air to be trapped between its filaments and warmed by body heat to provide insulation for the user. If down gets wet it clumps together. This causes it to lose loft and insulation as it can’t trap air effectively. When wet, down loses all of its insulating properties, as water conducts heat away from the body up to 25 times faster than air. It will also gain weight and its breathability will be significantly reduced; leaving you feeling cold, wet and uncomfortable. Down filled items are most likely to get sweaty and wet inside when used in damp or wet conditions. Therefore it is important to stop down filled gear from getting wet by applying Durable Water Repellency (DWR). The outer fabric of your down filled item, as well as the down inside, must be maintained to ensure comfort. Through use it will eventually wear off and need to be renewed with Nikwax Down Proof. Down is ideal for very cold and dry conditions… Down has exceptional insulating properties, trapping air between its filaments to keep you warm. No other product offers so much insulation for so little weight and bulk. It’s ideal for sleeping bags, jackets, gilets and down clothing in general. Water, whether it is rain or condensation from sweat, compromises the insulating properties of down. If down gets wet it loses all of its insulating capacity and also causes weight gain. This reduces the comfort of the user, causing them to feel cold and wet. Treating your down with Nikwax Down Proof adds Durable Water Repellency (DWR) to both the outer fabric and the down fill. This prevents water absorption whilst maintaining insulation and breathability, keeping you warm, dry and comfortable.   How to: IMPORTANT: For best results remove all non-washable parts and clean item(s) first with Nikwax Down Wash Direct®. Always use Down Wash Direct® and Down Proof in separate wash cycles. No need to dry item(s) before waterproofing. Shake well before use. Follow care label instructions.
  1. Remove all detergent build-up from the detergent dispenser
  2. Place maximum of 1 clean item in washing machine
  3. Select a 30°C synthetic cycle on a slow spin, with an extra rinse if possible.
Clothing:
  • Add 150ml of Down Proof to detergent dispenser.
Sleeping bags (8kg+ washing machine):
  • 150ml for 1 season bags (0.8kg- 1kg)
  • 300ml for 2-3 season bags (1.1kg – 2kg)
  • 500ml for 4 season bags (2kg – 2.5kg)

Return Policies

Customers have 21 days from the date of purchase to make returns or exchanges. You, as a Customer, are obliged to inform us via email or phone before you return the item, only in the case of:

  • Items must have a RECEIPT and original packing slip, be in original packaging or boxes, must NOT have been worn or used, and all hang tags must still be on the items. Freight costs are not refundable.
  • Customers can return all regular-priced items for a full refund.
  • Customers can return sale items, discounted up to and including 30% off, for EXCHANGE or STORE CREDIT ONLY.
  • Customers who purchase clearance items at 35% off or greater are a FINAL SALE, with no exchanges or returns.

    • Customers are responsible for the return shipping costs when returning by mail. We recommend that Returns be returned with tracking and insurance, as Prairie Summit Shop is not responsible for lost packages. The return must be accompanied by the original sales receipt (sent via email confirmation), and the online order packing slip and returned to our web store within 21 days from the date of purchase. Shipping Policies

We strive to get all online orders processed within 1-3 working days, excluding holidays.

  • Freight timeline estimates from Canada Post (or other delivery companies) Do Not include weekends or our processing days. Ex. 3 day shipping does not include our processing time in store.
  • Orders for in-store pickup will be prioritized and shipped to the selected pick-up location, and you will be notified once ready for pickup.
  • Orders with multiple items will be consolidated and shipped from one location. This may take a few extra days of processing.
  • We are not responsible for shipping carrier delays or lost deliveries.

We currently offer Free Regular Shipping within Canada on orders over $199.

*Due to the size, shape, and weight of select items, certain items are excluded from this offer. All items are available for Free pick up in-store from both our Regina and Winnipeg locations, as well as these items are also available with normal shipping rates that are applied in the cart.
